Ghazi Al-Gosaibi Chair organized the Culture and Arts Festival in cooperation with the Deanship of Student Affairs at Al Yamamah University on Thursday, 12 April 2018, for three days. The aim of the festival was to exploit the positive potential of the students, especially at this crucial moment in the Kingdom when there are many temptations and negative views in our society, which do not fit with our values and principles. The organizers were keen to hold the festival on the International Theater and Poetry Day.
The festival included an official opening, a number of theatrical works and traditional heritage paintings. The university invited a wide number of people interested in literary works in general, and the playwrights in particular to create an interactive atmosphere. Art of photography, paintings of Arabic calligraphy, in addition to the pavilion of heritage and folk heritage in the Kingdom were included in the exhibition.
“Since its inception, Ghazi Al-Gosaibi Chair for Development and Cultural Studies, aims at enriching the cultural, literary and artistic movement in and outside the university community by organizing a variety of new initiatives and activities,” said Dr. Hussein Bin Mohammed AlFreihi, President of Al Yamamah University. “This reflects positively on the way students think, which is important to build an ideal society.” AlFreihi stressed that art is a language of communication between cultures and people, a fertile environment for the cross-fertilization of ideas among the members of a single society, and a means of self-refinement and improvement of human taste.
Among the activities of the festival was Al Asfooriya Online, a social play inspired by the novels of Dr. Ghazi Al-Gosaibi. A group of actors from several theater groups from King Saud University performed the play. The festival also included two films: Thobe Bride and The Other two Saudi films which won the admiration of the audience. Eng. Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al Zamil, Chairman of the Advisory Board of Ghazi Al-Gosaibi Chair, signed the book titled Building Petrochemical Industries in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – A Vision Becomes a Reality.
At the end of the festival, Eng. Abdulaziz Al-Zamil and Mr. Khalid Bin Mohammed Al-Khudair, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University honored the pioneers of the theater and fine arts. They honored a number of well-known names in the industry like Abdullah Al Sadhan, Ali Al Huwairini, Ali Ibrahim, Dr. Naif Khalaf, and the theater directors Samaan Alani and Raja Al Otaibi. The festival celebrated poetry and it honored the poet Sahayeb Najd for her participation during the festival, in addition to honoring the members of the theater groups who worked over the festival days and made sure to delight the audience by presenting their distinguished plays.
